We came to Merchants for a friend's 40th. She had booked their top room months in advance. On the night there was insufficient bar staff, meaning we had to queue for up to 15 minutes for a drink. They had promised to open the top bar, but could only do so sporadically so we were forced to queue downstairs, away from the party. At one point, the party seemed only half full - the reason being, the other half were downstairs queuing for a drink. They ran out of glasses, ran out of change and ran out of beer. In a bid to help them, I started clearing glasses, given no-one else was. I was told 'I wouldn't bother doing that, we're not going to be able to wash them.' It was appallingly bad. The only reason we, and plenty of other people, didn't cause a bigger scene on the night was because we didn't want to further ruin the evening and embarrass our friend. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Avoid at all costs. Terrible.
This was the second time weve had Sunday lunch here since the change of ownership. Cant praise them highly enough. The food was fabulous the wine reasonably priced and delicious and the staff very friendly without being over attentive. Merchants had been off our radar for some time but now looks like becoming a regular Sunday treat. Great value for money and better than some more expensive restaurants within walking distance. Thanks again.
Meal was different from the usual but tasted amazing, my tandoori trout was succulent and moreish. We'd go back.
Excellent food great friendly atmosphere all at good prices... well worth a visit..
What a great find! On our way through Warwick, we decided to stop in for some lunch. It was absolutely empty so we were a bit skeptical, but they had a great set lunch menu so we thought we'd give it a go. I'm glad we did! The service was top notch and the food delicious. We had the lunch set menu, three course, and were not disappointed. Would definitely recommend the place will will come again if ever in the area.
